Time for Tom Brady's Career to Sunset

The New England Patriots are into the offseason and will start to sign free agents.  Their biggest question is Tom Brady.  He could retire or play a 19th NFL season, but it is time for him to ride off into the sunset now?

Brady won’t make the decision by himself.  According to ESPN, Tom Brady said, “I have a wife [Gisele Bundchen] that aspires to be a lot of things, and she travels a lot.  My oldest son lives here in New York, three kids, and you’re just always trying to juggle and you want to be there for them, and you want to be there for the hockey games and the soccer games.  But you also realize the level of commitment it takes to give as much as you can to the team that needs you.”

Brady has already accomplished so much in his NFL career.  He owns a 196-55 record in the regular season.  His total wins with playoffs stands at 223, the most in NFL history.  Brady has tossed for 66,159 yards ranking him 4th.  He also has 488 touchdown passes.  Those are regular season stats.

In the playoffs Brady elevates his game.  With him as a starter the team knows that they are going to play deep into January and possibly February.  The Patriots have made it all the way to the AFC Championship Game 12 times and advanced to the Super Bowl 8 times.  In the playoffs Brady has thrown for 10,226 yards and 71 touchdowns.  Brady protects the ball well, throwing just 31 interceptions.

When the Patriots have advanced to the Super Bowl, Brady’s record is 5-3.  The 5 wins are the most in the Super Bowl era by a starting quarterback.  He has played well in those games passing for 2,576 yards, 18 touchdowns, and just 5 picks.  Brady was named MVP of the “big game” 4 times.

So, is it time for Brady to hang up his cleats and shoulder pads?  Definitely yes.
He will be 41 once the season starts and who knows if he will last the season?  All he would be doing is chasing another Super Bowl ring which is not guaranteed.  It would be a shame if Brady was hurt during the year and had to miss time.

For Brady, there is nothing left for him to accomplish in the game of football.  Brady owns 5 Super Bowl rings and 4 Super Bowl MVP’s.  He was named MVP of the NFL season 3 times and was voted to the Pro Bowl 13 seasons.  Brady knows he will leave the game as one of the top quarterbacks in NFL history.  Hopefully, he will decide to walk away but Brady will make the decision that he thinks is best for him and his family.
